Our Founder's Story
Hi! I'm Chavelli, a graphic designer by trade and lettering artist and earring designer by passion.
Originally from Hong Kong, in my youth I thrived in my closet of bright colors and crazy patterns. Then I moved to New York City. Boom! One day I realized my closet was almost entirely black. 😆
I jest, but it’s not all that far from reality. Responsible shopping and a desire for quality pieces as I got older was the main cause.
Practical yes. Inspiring? Hardly.
Despite what my clothes might say, I didn't get less vibrant on the inside. I started seeking out unique accessories to reflect my multi-passionate self. Scarves, hats, jewelry and sunglasses are what I use for my bit of flair.
Fast-forward to March 2020, I was extremely sick with Covid. Hand-making jewelry became a soul-healing source of therapy during a long period of recovery. It inspired me to help others with their own self-expression and self-worth through my designs.
Plus, the pandemic forced us all to communicate and interact differently. As it dragged on I sought out ways to look festive on Zoom birthday parties and feel put together even while wearing the comfiest of lounge wear. I mean, lipstick was totally useless behind a mask!
Turns out the light-weight and colorful earrings I started making was the perfect solution. Fantastic to spice up an all black outfit in NYC, versatile enough to wear on the beach in the Bahamas, and perfectly lightweight to wear hiking up to the Acropolis. Fun, sophisticated and show-stopping, yet extremely wearable. By Chavelli was born!
